چکیده

We study thermal instability and formation of local hot spots in a driven nonlinear NbN superconducting microwave resonator. White noise injected into the resonator results in transitions between the metastable states via a process consisting of two stages. In the first stage, the input noise entering the system induces fluctuations in the resonator mode. While in the second one, these mode fluctuations result in phase transitions of the hot spot due to induced temperature fluctuations. The associated noise-activated escape rate is calculated theoretically and measured also experimentally by means of driving the system into stochastic resonance. A comparison between theory and experiment yields a partial agreement. © 2007 American Institute of Physics. DOI: 10.1063/1.2722241

Extreme nonlinear phenomena in NbN superconducting stripline resonators

We study giant nonlinear phenomena that emerge near a bifurcation threshold (BT) in a microwave superconducting stripline resonator. Above the BT the system becomes astable and self-sustained modulation of the reflected power off the resonator occurs. The giant nonlinearity manifests itself in an extremely high intermodulation gain, accompanied by a very strong noise squeezing and period doubli...

Thermal instability and self-sustained modulation in superconducting NbN stripline resonators

We study theoretically and experimentally the response of a microwave superconducting stripline resonator, integrated with a microbridge, to a monochromatic injected signal. We find that there is a certain range of driving parameters in which a novel nonlinear phenomenon emerges, and self-sustained modulation of the reflected power off the resonator is generated by the resonator. A theoretical ...

Energy Balance and Gas Thermalization in a High Power Microwave Discharge in Mixtures

The dynamics of fast gas heating in a high power microwave discharge in air, is investigated in the framework of FDTD simulations of the Maxwell equations coupled with the fluid simulations of the plasma. It is shown that, an ultra-fast gas heating of the order of several 100 Kelvins occurs in less than 100 ns. The main role in the heating is played by the electron impact dissociation of , diss...

Enhanced electromechanical coupling of a nanomechanical resonator to coupled superconducting cavities.

We investigate the electromechanical coupling between a nanomechanical resonator and two parametrically coupled superconducting coplanar waveguide cavities that are driven by a two-mode squeezed microwave source. We show that, with the selective coupling of the resonator to the cavity Bogoliubov modes, the radiation-pressure type coupling can be greatly enhanced by several orders of magnitude, ...

Measurement of Autler-Townes and Mollow transitions in a strongly driven superconducting qubit.

We present spectroscopic measurements of the Autler-Townes doublet and the sidebands of the Mollow triplet in a driven superconducting qubit. The ground to first excited state transition of the qubit is strongly pumped while the resulting dressed qubit spectrum is probed with a weak tone. The corresponding transitions are detected using dispersive readout of the qubit coupled off resonantly to ...
